Description: Our client, a well-known bank, is now looking for a Senior Database Infrastructure Upgrade & Patch Management Engineer to join their team in a secure banking data centre environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own end-to-end hands-on execution of database patching, binary updates, major/minor version upgrades, and CVE security vulnerability remediations for Oracle, IBM DB2, MySQL, and PostgreSQL stacks.
  • Perform cross-environment deployments across DEV, SIT, UAT, PREPROD, and Production using zero-downtime rolling maintenance and Data Guard / replica switchover techniques.
  • Conduct post-deployment health checks, SQL performance monitoring, transaction throughput verification, and audit-ready log compilations.
  • Author detailed technical runbooks, deployment checklists, standard operating procedures, and step-by-step manual rollback playbooks.
  • Manage point-in-time database restorations, schema error mitigation, and emergency rollback procedures during approved change windows.
  • Draft technical RFC documentation, perform risk impact assessments, and present database change details in CAB review meetings following ITIL standards.
  • Develop lightweight Shell and native SQL/PL-SQL scripts to automate pre/post-patch validation and sanity testing.
  • Participate in approved after-hours and weekend change windows for live banking production maintenance.

Requirements:

  • 5–7 years of proven hands-on technical experience in database patching, fix packs, and full version upgrades within a live banking or financial production environment.
  • Deep administration expertise in Oracle, IBM DB2, MySQL, and PostgreSQL, including rolling upgrades, binary patching, and online migrations.
  • Solid background in database security hardening, SSL/TLS connections, encryption, access control, and CVE vulnerability remediation.
  • Hands-on knowledge of SQL execution plans, index/buffer pool tuning, table space management, and backup/recovery validation.
  • Strong Linux/Unix server administration skills, with proficiency in Shell scripting and database native scripting (PL/SQL, SQL stored procedures).
  • Demonstrated experience in building complete technical runbooks, upgrade test plans, and manual rollback procedures.
  • Solid understanding of financial data security, banking data privacy compliance, and ITIL change governance.
  • Excellent written and spoken English and Cantonese for internal stakeholder collaboration and technical documentation.
